block batch vs restricted batch

Hi,

    Can someone tell me the business reason to block a batch via a transfer posting vs restricting a batch via status change? I am well aware of how both may or may not impact MRP and that one is a stock mvmt whereas one is a status. I also know the transactions very well for either and that restricted batches can be STOed and used in production but not sold via sales orders.

What I am looking for is why and when would a company chose to block a batch and when would it chose to restrict it ?
